+ Sanitizing can kill pathogens; Washing properly for at least 20 seconds can mechanically remove pathogens, visible dirt, and grease. Using these two methods together is the best way to minimize harmful microbes on the skin.
In healthcare settings the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that an alcohol-based sanitizer is the preferred method for cleaning your hands because it is “more effective at killing potentially deadly germs on hands than soap,” and that it, “improves skin condition with less irritation and dryness than soap and water.”1
Alcohol-based hand sanitizers do not cause antibiotic resistance and the “antimicrobial activity of alcohols can be attributed to their ability to denature proteins… hand sanitizers containing at least 60%-95% alcohol are most effective at denaturing proteins.” 1
Hand cleanser contains 65% isopropyl alcohol which is within the CDC’s recommended level for fighting pathogens. This is more effective at killing pathogens than 96%+ solutions. Hand sanitizers with minimal water content cannot permeate germ cells effectively, reducing surface contact time by evaporating too quickly before killing them completely. Higher levels of alcohol can also dry the skin out and cause irritation. To take better care of your skin, our cleanser contains botanical extracts and natural vitamin E to nourish when frequently cleansing.
