Opening intensely dark, like a mechanic shop at night, with the scent of new tires, black leather, hot brakes and motor oil, Fantosmia leaves an immediate impression. Then the perfumer steps on the breaks (pun completely intended) as the fragrance smooths out into an ambered, woody tobacco with spicy-sweet nuances of nutmeg and cascarilla, which lends a barbershop or perhaps shaving cream scent.
If we had a meter, we would rank Fantosmia very high on the masculine scale. However since we don't believe that fragrance has gender, we think it's worth a try for anybody, if only to broaden one's appreciation of the art of perfumery. After all, Fantosmia is based on an elusive "phantom scent" that perfumer Euan McCall could only smell in his mind, and who wouldn't be curious about that?!
