Happy Holidays! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Running a perfume business is a handful. It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day transactional stuff. During Thanksgiving, I realized that I needed to pause for a moment and remind myself of why I began this webshop. It was a response to finding out about the very real animal cruelty in the perfume industry. Many of us, often unknowingly, with our dollars, have contributed to absolutely heinous practices that have led to the unimaginable suffering, death and even near-extinction of countless animals. I wanted to talk more openly about it. I wanted to support artisans who are against it. I also wanted to contribute actual dollars to animal charities whenever possible.
AVÉ PARFUM™ has been in business for a year now, and in that short time one of my dreams has already come true. Because of your support, we have made a monthly donation to animal charities every single month since we opened. Beneficiaries include SPCA International, Josh and his Critters in Los Angeles and a local, Asheville non-profit called Brother Wolf Animal Rescue (BWAR).
In addition to our donations, I recently made the commitment to sponsor a dog in Thailand on a monthly basis for as long as we are operating.
I am excited to introduce you to Levin, a senior citizen who lives at Soi Dog Foundation in Phuket, Thailand. Soi Dog's mission is: "To improve the welfare of dogs and cats in Asia, resulting in better lives for both the animal and human communities, to create a society without homeless animals, and to ultimately end animal cruelty." When Levin arrived at Soi Dog, he was missing half of his jaw and still suffers from tremors. With nowhere else to go, dogs and cats like Levin are thrown out like yesterday's trash, suffering in agony and often ending up as victims of abuse or of the horrific dog meat trade. Thanks to Soi Dog, Levin can eat fairly well, is not in pain, has food, clean water, shelter. They also enjoy positive interaction with other dogs as well as lots of human affection.
This Thanksgiving, I remembered how grateful I am for your support. You are doing more than buying perfume--your collective support enables us to help animals who are suffering. Thank you so much!
